Big picture objective(s) of said experiment are as follows:
– Create a following via blog interest, wherein followers experience my rocky path from blindness to eventual enlightenment through the resurrection of forgotten furniture and tailored textiles.
– Make as
little few grammatical errors as possible along the way. Mamma Sally is already cracking the whip.
– Perform market research on repurposed furniture market by posting finished pieces on Craigslist and find out whether I’m fishing with poison or mouthwatering fishy food. (A friend recently told me they had success fishing with gummy worms as bait. That’s the kind of anti-traditionalism that tickles my spirit). There’s hope for us yet, my colorful gummy friends!
– Seek and receive helpful advice from blog viewers ranging from opinions of completed pieces to tips on how to improve completed pieces.
– Open small work/shop space in central/North End Boise location which will feature furniture pieces I come upon through various avenues (flee markets, thrift stores, Craigslist, garage sales, my parents living room, generous friends) as well as various other interior pieces I create or improve. In my dream world, the booming success of this store front will lead to topical DIY weekend workshops, wine and treats open house evenings and consultancy wherein I help willing clients transform their spaces (whether it be an office, living room or tired dresser) utilizing savvy and resourceful cost-cutting techniques.
Ho finito! That’s it!
I anticipate canned soup, frigid winter bicycle rides, generic brand shampoo and frequent tearful quarter-life existential crises breakdowns along the way. But if I’ve learned anything from the past year, it’s that doing what you love and enjoying your life WHILE you’re living it is the most important rule of all. The rest is just for show.
So, uh, wish me luck.
