Special Man Friend and I moved apartments over the holiday season.
All the way to the left. By about 14 inches. For realsies. The same building. We can lean our ear on the walls and hear our old apartment.
It went from this.
We traded a wee bit of space for a whole lot of character (hardwood floors and exposed brick walls) and a rent decrease and are blissfully settled in.
Except for the bookcase situation. There isn’t one.
Special Man Friend has taken it upon himself to build us one. Only I’m not allowed to see or offer input to this project. And I’m not entirely sure he knows how to work with wood. (I MEAN, the only research he did was to Google “Fibonacci sequence.“ ) …what?
So let us all pray to the Carpentry gods that he prevails. And more importantly, that he returns with ten fingers and ten toes.
Okay then. DIY bookshelves. Let’s look at some.
Looks slightly precarious, no? Bloesem Blogs.
YES. Talk about maximizing space! Popular Mechanics.
“Honey, could you reach up and get me that one book I love? You know, the white one.” Apartment Therapy.
YES YES YES. Remodelista.
Love this! It’s like literary Jinga. Tagza.
I dig the idea of building a bookcase around something other than a gigantic plasma TV. Traditional Walking Sticks.
Ladders. Talk about extreme industrial chic. Home Interior Design.
And now for my current favesies – PIPING.
